Hampton Roads International Security Quarterly
(HRISQ)

The Transatlantic community remains the foundation for the military, political, and economic welfare of North America and Europe. Many concrete and emerging threats challenge both continents. From terrorism to proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, from emerging world powers to demographic and ecological challenges - neither America nor Europe can count on mastering future threats alone.

The democracies of the North Atlantic region, together with partner democracies scattered around the globe, remain bound together by a community of fundamental interests and values. Even passionate disagreement over individual policy questions cannot obscure this basic fact.

First published in 2001, Hampton Roads International Security Quarterly (HRISQ) examines the key issues effecting the cohesion and vital interests of the Atlantic Community. In recognition of the interconnectivity of the modern world, each issue has a topical focus which alternates between directly "transatlantic" topics and either functional or geographic "out-of-area" issues relevant to Europe and the United States.

HRISQ emphasizes a balanced approach to Transatlantic issues, and presents both American and European views.
